The "Memorial"

Wives and mothers would send men to battle with a kiss and a thought. If you must die this day, die well.

When we mourn our fallen, we should mourn them well. I don't believe the Flight 93 Memorial to be an Islamic plot or a secret nod in their direction, but I do believe that it is tasteless and corny, and particularly unfitting a thing to do in memory of them. They died as warriors, fighting the first battle that continues to this very day, and should be remembered as our friends, our loved ones and our brave fellow Americans. The memorial in it's present incarnation is an apt tribute to lambs before the slaughter, not to the valiant fighters who saved many lives.

War memorials are not erected to remind us of peace. They are erected to remind us of the horrors of war and the brave men and women who died in our name. These friends of ours died well. So take that crescent and those horrid wind chimes, bundle them into the biggest crate you can find, and see if someone else has need for a large box of whine, because it is an insult to place it in memory of Flight 93.
