Armalite's New Handgun

The AR-24, in 9 mm. Soon to follow will be the AR-26 in 45 ACP later next year, and the current most popular self-defense caliber...40...will be introduced in '08. I think that used to be referred to as reverse engineering.

15 round magazine, MSRP $665. Manufactured in Turkey, and the Armalite rep offers that the plant is ISO 9000 certified, and that's a worry because ISO 9001 has been the industry standard for a decade and no one builds anything of worth in Europe using companies that can only meet the older standards.

AR-24 (full size frame)
Overall Length 8.267 in
Overall Height 5.112 in
Barrel Length 4.671 in
Grip Width 1.339 in
Weight 2.18 lbs
Muzzle Velocity 1148 fps (± 32 fps)

A 35-ounce 9 mm isn't exactly what the firearm world has been clamoring for, and the rep also reports that the magazines will be "...like $30 each" so there goes a host of potential buyers. But it's obvious they want to cash in on the Armalite name with Armalite customers who'd be tickled to carry a pistol packing the same company name as their long arm.

All that aside, I predict they'll sell dozens if not more.
