I was taken aback when Mr. Fancy Schmancy shouted "A pox on both your houses!" as I was unaware that he knew of my summer home. Founding member of the Hogtown Irregulars, and former indentured short order cook still on the run. Professional Zamboni racer and bronze medal recipient in the 2010 All-Miami Outdoor Zamboni Championships.
Josey is good. But no one every called out to me, "Hey get in here, Josey Wales is coming on!" And I've just always thought of old Josey as more of a Civil War flick than a Western.
And no orchestration to speak of. "Seven" is full of so many little things that go unnoticed, too. Like Steve McQueen NEVER being still, even in the background when he was supposed to be. The legendary quickdraw fights between him and Yule had the cast and crew on edge because Brenner was not accustomed to being second in anything, and McQueen was a half step above a nobody.
Such an ensemble, to my mind, of testosterone scene-stealers abusing horses has never been seen since, or before for that matter.
"Josey Wales" was always a "Get in here! Josey Wales is on" movie to me. Hell, I have the darn thing nearly memorized, and love it every time I see it!
"Josey Wales" was the beginning of the Old West. This was at the end of the Civil War, and Josey went west and met up with that family heading to a ranch that Granny's son established. We went from the Civil War right to the Old West.
I suppose the beef I have with "Josie" is that aside from himself and Chief Dan George, the cast was composed of cardboard cutouts with nothing new to say. Oh and there's the guy with "that voice" who wanted all the killings to stop.
Wanted all the killings to stop? And do what? Take up knitting? Making the perfect apple pie? Ah, no; hadda been the search for that perfect rose.
In "7" we learned a truth for the ages. That Mexicans are either poor or criminals, and that sooner or later enough brave men will band together to drive away the latter.
Nobody throws me my own guns and tells me to ride on. Nobody.
If you can't forget about him, why don't you ride sidesaddle?
Harry, please don't understand me so fast.
Reminds me of that fella back home who fell off a ten-story building. As he was falling, people on each floor kept hearing him say, "So far, so good. So far, so good."
If God did not want them sheared, He would not have made them sheep.
Generosity. That was my first mistake. I leave these people a little bit extra and they hire these men to make trouble.
You hear that? We're trapped! All forty of us!
Your friends, they don't like you very much anymore. You force them to make too many decisions. With me, only one decision: do what I say.
Just a little gesture, huh? To show these people who the real boss is. You go, then I give you the guns back. I know you won't use those guns against me. Only a crazy-man makes the same mistake twice.
Once I rob a bank in Texas. Your government get after me with a whole army. Whole army! One little bank. In Texas, only Texans can rob banks.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was too much of a cartoon. Now if The Outlaw Jose Wales had been on the list. . .
Like Lem said, "The Outlaw Josey Wales". "Open Range" is a close second.

Giving all respect to The Duke.
None of those would make my short list:
The Sons of Katie Elder
McClintock!
High Plains Drifter
For a Few Dollars More

Mag 7 Quotes Part 2:
"That...that was the greatest shot I ever saw.."
"The worst. I was aiming at the horse."
"Family...none...kids...none...prospects...zero."
"Enemies...none."
"No enemies?"
"Alive."
And there's old Eli:
