Hostage Killed By NYPD

An innocent worker was shot and killed by cops after being taken hostage two thugs inside a Bronx bodega, witnesses and family said. Reynaldo Cuevas, 20, was inside the Natalie Grocery store on East 168th and was taken hostage after two men entered the store around 2 a.m., Cuevas' cousin told The Post.

After a couple hours (sic), one of thugs surrended (sic) to cops and was arrested at the scene.
Cuevas, who was not being held at gunpoint, ran out of the store and tripped on a fire hydrant before being shot by police, witnesses said.

Police "shot him [Reynaldo] right in the neck," Garcia said. "He didn't have his hands up. He fell to the ground and the cops grabbed him by the arm and dragged him on the street."

Cuevas was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died. The officer who fired his weapon was taken to Jacobi Hospital for observation."

Yeah. These are the only citizens trustworthy enough to have guns in NY.  Poor guy flees for his life only to be popped by a nervous rodeo clown, then, to add insult to injury, is dragged through the street like a dog. And why not release the cops' name? They publish the name of the man he murdered, but this criminal in blue gets a pass?

The NYPD criminals in blue will always get a pass, and NYC will always disarm its citizens, in spite of the fact that cops shoot the wrong person at a rate of 5 to 1 compared to the armed citizen.

That having been said, this does look like a tough call, as the escaping hostage looked too much like a running suspect, assuming the details are true. Dragging the poor guy through the street seems to indicate that they remained in their error a little too long, though, especially as they have a history of "Us vs. Them".

Amazing how they can at times crack off 50 rounds to do nothing more than shatter some storefront windows and put a few parking meters out of action, but when a hostage breaks free they plug him dead to rights?

Not really if you stop to think about it. The man was running straight towards them, tripped over a hydrant, and at an estimated distance of 40-50 feet was wide open for a COM hit.

Unarmed bad guys rarely run TO the police for help but perhaps the officer in question was absent the day that particular and somewhat important tidbit was discussed.

Poor Guy! Sometimes, we are not really know what's going to happen in the next minute of our life even if we didn't do something wrong. Those who are innocent become the victims of these people who commit crimes.

Always thought three times before taking action. Twice would have been quite enough.
