Concealed Carry Winter Wear

The Gun Source is having a sale on CCW jackets, and while the styling leaves something to be desired they appear to be worth the asking price.

If that doesn't float your boat then let me tell you what I used to do.

I'd go to a crafts store, or even the sewing section of a Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc, and purchase some heavy-duty dungaree patches. Any hole-patching material will do, as they are sturdy and readily accept the intrusion of needle and thread. I'd figure out the size necessary to hold my concealed handgun of choice, and sew the patch into the inside of the jacket, in effect making my own holster. While you're at it, lining the patch with some cheap felt material is a good idea as it is more wear-friendly to the firearms finish. Now, if you've a spouse or significant other familiar with sewing, its really easy to accomplish this with a helping hand or two or even by your lonesome, but what a decent seamstress can show you how to do is bolster the material being used for the holster...so it doesn't sag under the weight of the gun.

For just a few dollars you can turn almost any light, medium, or heavy jacket into a concealed carry one, but if you're doing it on your own and haven't been needle & threaded before then practice first on any old cloth or article of clothing you can bear to be without, until you've gotten the hang of it. Heaviest thread you can find, and any old cheap sewing needles that certainly aren't going to set you back more than a few bucks. If someone in the house is familiar with a sewing machine then its a done deal in a matter of seconds, but I've personally never used one do I can't drop a tip or two along the way.

The deal with creating an article of clothing favorable to carry is the fact that you can dispense with a holster altogether, and yes, a great many men treat their holsters as women do handbags...the bigger and heavier and gaudier the better...but for me the minimalist approach has always been preferable.
