Death Penalty Foes Rejoice After NJ Vote

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- "With New Jersey poised to become the first state in four decades to abolish the death penalty, opponents of the practice declared a historic victory and hoped other states would follow suit.

The Assembly voted 44-36 on Thursday to approve the legislation, which passed the Senate on Monday by a 21-16 vote. Gov. Jon S. Corzine said he will sign it within a week.

Supporters hoped New Jersey's move would start a wave of similar legislation. Thirty-seven states have the death penalty, according to the Washington-based Death Penalty Information Center.

"New Jersey stands to embolden lawmakers who were as fearful of eliminating capital punishment as they were of keeping it," said Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International USA. "This is a harbinger of things to come."

And just listen to THIS BS:

"A special state commission found in January that the death penalty was a more expensive sentence than life in prison, hasn't deterred murder, and could kill innocent people."

Wow. Those needles must be damned expensive. Keeping a mad dog killer in jail for decades seems to be a cheap venture to the commies that run Joisey, to say nothing of the fan clubs that surround some of these killers and the other sickos who try to then emulate them. Just the other day I caught the tail end of a news tidbit where a prisoner on death row was banned from sending holiday greetings to the family of a woman he killed, didn't catch his name but the gist of the story was that he continued to torment the grieving family.

Since Jersey has towns that year after year lead the country in murders, robbery, rapes, and other felonious endeavors, I do suspect that one of two things is next on their agenda. Start building lots more jail space or tell the ineffectual cops to give up altogether. No wait; they can always just blame crime on guns and stop paying any attention to why the criminal element favors living in the Garden State to begin with. Gets all confusing and icky when you delve deep into important matters, anyway.
