Losers Wishing To Be Winners Will Vote For Anyone

by Kyle Smith

"Limbaugh isn't likely to turn around and praise McCain, but he's going to feel queasy when he's singing the same song as the liberal media. Other conservatives mistrustful of McCain have already come around, and will continue to do so. The day after Super Tuesday - What Have We Done Wednesday - the conservative talk radio host and Mitt Romney backer Hugh Hewitt laid his sword at McCain's feet, offering "Seven Reasons to Support the GOP's Nominee": Iraq and six Supreme Court justices over age 68. McCain isn't certain to appoint conservative justices - Bush wasn't either - but he probably will.

Moreover, Limbaugh's anti-endorsement could give the Tina Feys enough cover to quietly pull that McCain lever. A CNN poll in 2006 gave Limbaugh an approval/disapproval rating of 26/58. Every evangelical voter who stays home could be more than matched by a secular voter flipping to McCain. Consider Ohio - 25 percent evangelicals in 2004. They put President Bush over the top, but the 75 percent of non-evangelicals went for John Kerry by a margin of 13 points. Forty-seven percent of Ohio voters described themselves as moderates in 2004, and they voted Kerry by 18 points. Only 11 percent of Democrats voted for Bush. McCain could substantially improve on Bush's numbers in the left and center.

Conservatives are one Justice away from completing the tantalizing half-century project to get the Supreme Court to stop using the Constitution as an Etch-a-Sketch for their ideas about right and wrong. McCain represents the best chance conservatism has this year. Let's disband our circular firing squad."

Following in the disturbing trend of allowing entertainment writers have a crack at political discourse, the NY Post has lost most of its marbles with this one in giving lil Kylie the ink to stain himself with.

It's pretty much the same with ALL non-combatants. Those who've never fought for much of anything but like the idea ow WINNING because when their sports teams win it makes them feel all warmish and snuggly.

What Vince Lombardi actually said was "Winning isn't everything but the WILL TO WIN is the only thing..." because crafty old Vince knew that teams sometimes win by mistake and having the WILL to win going in is more important than relying upon luck.

Having the WILL TO WIN means everyone is on the same page. The entire team focused towards one goal. But NEVER at ANY cost otherwise we might as well be Germans following a guy named Adolph, Japs backing some dude called Tojo, or the Soviets behind...well, you get the picture.

If, during the middle of an important game, the Packer cheerleaders with full NFL approval decided to change the rules of the game in order to favor the team wearing the cutest socks, then Vince would have pulled his players off the field and told the powers that be to get back to him when they decided to play real football again.

Winning is fun, no doubt about it, but grownups know that you can't win 'em all. This election cycle is a lot like that. Voting for McCain simply to declare oneself a winner is for losers. And stop parading old Supreme Court Justices in front of us. Bush has paid us absolutely NO attention whatsoever yet when he tried promoting his secretary to the Court we screamed long enough and loud enough to make him change his mind. If we hold up our end of the bargain and keep a close eye on judicial nominees we can continue to influence such selections no matter who is President. Back when Ronnie was looking for a Conservative Justice there WAS no internet, same with Bush The First.

Nobody said this was supposed to be easy. Matter of fact, Democracy is a bitch. Electing a President then leaving him alone to run the show went the way of the Dodo once we found a way to make our voices heard across the entire world. Just look what the loons have been doing to Bush all of these years.

So forget about winning at any cost. Support your local Conservative politicians. Vote for the good guys whenever a good guy comes to town. But never, ever, vote for a bad guy simply because it allows you to preen about how much of a winner you really are.
