Life As We Know It...

No, this has nothing to do with summoning liberals for immediate DNA testing. A while back, Patrick featured a favorite topic of mine, a story about Alpha Centauri, the 3-star system that is but a mere 4.35 light years from earth. Two of the three stars are of the type astronomers consider to have potential for possessing earthlike planets in orbit. The fun part is, that in all of the Milky Way Galaxy, Alpha Centauri and Sol are three of the available stars in that relatively esoteric category, and they are so bloody close to one another.

To be hospitable to life as we know it, a planet must revolve around just the right star, have just the right sized moon, have outer gas giants to deflect most of the planet killing asteroids, and the hits just keep on coming.

Sol is 6 billion years old. Some of the stars in the Milky Way are 12 billion. Assuming evolution progressing on a timeline close to our own, that means intelligent life should have formed billions of years ago.

And, as Enrico Fermi asked, "So where are they, these other beings? A 4 billion year head start, and not a sign from them." Fermi's calculations concluded that with that much of a head start, a race equivalent in intelligence to our own should have colonized or at least visited the entire galaxy. And we talk about OUR radio and TV waves being sent into space, but where are theirs? Billions of years ahead, and nary a peep, let alone a drive-by.

Let's face it, kids. We're on our own.

And To Be Fair And Equitable...

Attention David Stern...

"Two armed robbery suspects are behind bars in Lee County. Investigators believe they're responsible for several thefts and robberies as well as a carjacking.

The two were in custody just one hour after police say they tried to rob two businesses in two different counties on Wednesday. Investigators say the arrests are a combination of good detective work and some alert victims.

Police say the unidentified suspects tried to rob the Phillips 66 on Highway 280. The woman clerk says the male suspect pulled a gun and demanded money. But she pulled her own gun and chased the suspect away.

"She did see the vehicle in the parking lot and she did discharge one round at the vehicle as it was leaving," said Captain Van Jackson with the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

The getaway car was a dark Ford Taurus. An alert immediately went out to local law enforcement agencies, including nearby Phenix City Police Department.

"Almost immediatly after we put it out on the radio, on our broadcast channel, we had a robbery reported at the Big Cat on Highway 80," said Captain Jim Hart, with the Phenix City Police Department.

After the second robbery, police got the break they were after. A carjacking victim reported seeing her stolen car, a black ford taurus, near the Budget Motel in Smiths Station.

The two suspects were taken into custody without incident at the motel.

"In law enforcement we will take luck anytime. This particular arrest might be able to clear up some other robberies and thefts that have occurred this jurisdiction, Phenix City and possibly Columbus." explained Captain Van Jackson.

As of late Wednesday afternoon Police were still trying to identify the two suspects and get them formally charged.

Meanwhile, area police report a rash of armed robberies lately, possibly because the holidays are getting close. While officers understand a persons right to defend themselves, they recommend if someone does demand money from you, give it to them."

Yes. And if they want to rape you, don't fight back. And if they want to toss you in a trunk, don't try to run away. Bear in mind the liberal credo: Help A Minority Today...Become A Willing Victim.

NBA Commissioner Joins The Anti-Gun Lobby...

NEW YORK (AP) -- "David Stern understands having a gun to protect your home. He's not convinced carrying one on the streets makes you any safer.

For that reason, the NBA commissioner said Wednesday that he would prefer his players leave their firearms behind when they go out.

"It's a pretty, I think, widely accepted statistic that if you carry a gun, your chances of being shot by one increase dramatically," Stern said during his preseason conference call. "We think this is an alarming subject, that although you'll read players saying how they feel safer with guns, in fact those guns actually make them less safe. And it's a real issue."

Wowsers. 4 million licensed concealed weapon carriers in the country, and the number who get shot is so miniscule as to be meaningless. Two and a half MILLION times a year the average citizen uses a firearm to stop a crime, and the Commish thinks that to be alarming as well one must suppose.

This man is either a complete idiot, or a gun-grabbing son of a bitch.

What's that? Both, you say?

I stand corrected. Then again, look at the players in his league. Who wouldn't be fearful of permitting these animals firearms...

Stephen King Comes Out Of The Closet...

"Republicans beware: Frightmeister Stephen King has signed on with the leftist group MoveOn.org to recruit volunteers to host Halloween dialing parties this weekend. Callers will urge voters to send GOP members of Congress to the political graveyard. "If I know anything, I know scary. And giving this President and this out-of-control Congress two more years to screw up our future is downright terrifying. Thankfully, this national nightmare is one we can end with - literally - a wakeup call," King says in an E-mail to MoveOn supporters..."

Yes, the Ugliest Author Alive tm, has shown his true colors, and why not? He's ready to hang up the word processor and quit writing as a fulltime gig, so it's on to bitching about what real men do for a living. There WAS a time when his work suggested a certain level of genuiine talent, but that was soon quashed when he came to the conclusion that dashing off one horrendous mini-novel after another was good enough to keep the soccer mom's frightened and panting for more. But since not ALL soccer mom's are Dumocraps, FrankenKing kept his childish fantasy of the real world under wraps to keep those megabucks rolling in.

A Hack joins up with Move-On. How surprising. Perhaps after yet another face-lift he'll soon appear in Soros-sponsored commercials for Hillary.

"Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe."
--U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein Associated Press 11/18/93

It's far easier to get hunters up in arms over gun control than to stir the hearts and minds of those who think they understand what the 2nd Amendment stands for. Tell someone they can't go on that big Elk hunt and stand by for the mother of all hissy fits, but go after the firearms necessary to protect home and hearth and they turn into modern day Texans. Sorry, can't be bothered. Long as nobody messes with my Ought-6 I'm good to go.

But in the fight against the Feinstein's and Clinton's of the world we'll take pretty much all comers, so hie thee to Vote Your Sport.

Barack Hussein Obama, Continued...

Monday we offered a short snippet about Barack Obama. Tuesday, Misha offered this link to an offering that featured the same thing but also a Wikepedia piece on Barack. Doesn't really matter where you read about him, and it's cool that the mega-blogs find something to clone that will garner lots more interest than can be achieved here.

Bottom Line: As WE said, the guy is a typical Dem. Not a shadow of substance, and even less to offer.

We Get Ripoff Bullshit Spam, Too...

"The BlackHawk Night-Ops Gladius is the most innovative handheld tactical illumination tool to ever arrive on the scene. The Gladius will revolutionize the way you think and operate in hostile reduced light situations. There has been nothing like it on the market before. Do not let its somewhat familiar exterior lead you to some early false conclusions!"

No. Never leap to early false conclusions. Or false early conclusions. Or conclusions that are false because they're early. Or vice versa.

And never, ever call this a flashlight. Who'd spend $200 for a fricking flashlight?

We Get Letters...

"Did you know that Box of Truth has been updated...?"

Yes. I was going to get to it, but first wanted to rid myself of the intial shock of learning that the man is dumber than ever. If that's even remotely possible.

The 2 new offerings are: rock salt in a shotgun, and carving one's own dum-dum's. We'll leave the rock salt for the time being and take a look at FORG (Fat Old Retired Guy) as he slices into FMJ's and lead bullets.

"Today's question: Does altering the nose of a bullet make it more effective against living targets?"

He then goes on to shoot them into jugs of water, and how this remotely answers his own question is beyond my ken. A simulacrum of a simulacrum of a simulacrum says nothing about a bullet's killing power. Balistic gelatin itself merely determines how said bullet penetrates and deforms in ballistic gelatin. Experts then have a go at interpreting the information, and every ammunition manufacturer I've ever spoken with tells me that gello testing tests the bullet, and not it's "stopping power". So shooting them into water is one step further down the line of what could be called "scientific", and it's because FORG and his ilk simply do not get-it. Gelatin results offer a look at what happens to a bullet when thusly stressed. They say NOTHING about what happens to a living target. Now, a nice fat mushroom is impressive as all hell, but we may only HOPE that it does the same in a living target, and along with many other variable, leads to rapid incapacitation.

Ammo makers spend countless hours with computer imaging and micro-analysis and a lot more to reach the point whereby they are ready to offer a new cartridge. FORG slices up some bullets then shoots them into his jugs.

Have military men done so with THEIR rounds? Has Law Enforcement?

Sure they have. For about a hundred years now. Give or take. Then they shot the rounds into PEOPLE. After a time, you get a good idea of what works and what does not. But you'll NEVER find out by capping a few water jugs.

NEVER.

If this total idiot were to simply shoot, then show some cool bullets, it'd be something else entirely, but he ALWAYS goes on to provide a definitive take on the matter.

The caveat remains. Do not try this at home. You'll only be laughed at by people who can spell IQ.

Be That Word Our Sign Of Parting...

Since I haven't let forth a good full-frontal simper in some time, well why the hell not now. I've never gone on anyone's blog and trashed the joint, or troll'd unto the high heavens, or used language unsuitable for prime time. I suppose the worst that can be said of me is that the different drummer approach doesn't sit well with some folken and they'll dismiss a "howdy" off to the nether regions of cyber space, and that's cool because it's their joint. I've mistakenly deleted comments here, blogger used to frig with them on a regular basis, but since haloscan arrived people can pretty much stop by and offer whatever's on their little minds. I enjoy even the one's I don't understand. Meant someone took the time, and agree, disagree, or shrug it off, input can be refreshing.

But I guess the big timers cannot long stand for an offering not of their own persuasion. There are people whose work I've monitored wherever I was in the world at the time. I remember peeking in to Moxie's place, for example, while I was away in Australia or Indonesia, or New Zealand, Borneo, you name it. She's been at it for 6 years, and while my traveling days have been severely curtailed...I do not run as fast nor traverse a jungle clime as readily...I still ring the cyber bell to see what the gal has been up to. 6 years of stopping by. There's a modicum of faithful, hale, well-met fellowship in frequenting an establishment for that long. Any establishment. Something to be said for regular customers.

No longer, and as our French allies so aptly put it, say la vee. My comments go to the "Owner must have a look-see, first" file, then get discarded without seeing the light of day, and since I remain in my heart of hearts a good customer I can't help but applaud someone who has the class to kick me out of her club. The link to this oasis of esoterica remains there, but as is the case with my paltry linkerings it's most likely because adding and removing doesn't happen overnight. And it would not be anything close to summoning discountenance should said link disappear for as I've said, to each their own. Old dog and new tricks can be a daunting combo, so I'll probably continue to stop by, and what the heck, as long as a person tickles one's wherewithalls who really cares if the joint has become too fancy to include an old Marine.

Washington , D.C. 20016

Dear Concerned Citizen,
Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and Al Quada detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay , Cuba.

Our administration takes these matters seriously and your opinion was heard loud and clear here in Washington.

You'll be pleased to learn that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like yourself, we are creating a new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the "Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short.

In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care.

Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday.

Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of complaint. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers.

We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter.

Although Ahmed is a sociopath and extremely violent, we hope that yoursensitivity to what you described as his "attitudinal problem" will help him overcome these character flaws.Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences. We understand that you plan to offer counseling and home schooling.

Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We advise that you do not ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga group. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless (in your opinion) this might offend him.

Ahmed will not wish to interact with you or your daughters (except sexually), since he views females as a subhuman form of property. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the new dress code that he will recommend as more appropriate attire.

I'm sure you will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the burka -- over time.

Just remember that it is all part of "respecting his culture and his religious beliefs" -- wasn't that how you put it? Thanks again for your letter. We truly appreciate it when folks like you keep us informed of the proper way to do our job.

You take good care of Ahmed - and remember, we'll be watching.

Good luck!

Cordially, your friend,

GEORGE W. BUSH

In A Nutshell

"An ex-con bludgeoned his former girlfriend and her son to death with an iron bar yesterday, then turned his weapon of choice on a fill-in superintendent who was killed as he happened upon the crime, police sources said.

"My father, my father!" wept Meylin Peralta, 32, the daughter of Polonio Peralta, 67, upon learning her dad was beaten to death while substituting for a friend in Morrisania, the Bronx.

"He was always trying to help people," she continued. "Why couldn't he ever say, 'No'? "

Police nabbed blood-soaked suspect Rafin Vellon, 39, at his parents' Washington Ave. apartment. He was questioned last night at the 41st Precinct stationhouse in the Bronx and then charged with three counts of murder.

Vellon's rampage began when he took a dumbbell bar and smashed his former girlfriend, Gloria Valdez, 56, in the face inside the basement apartment they once shared, according to cops.

Vellon then went after Valdez's mentally handicapped son, Carlos, 36, according to cops. Valdez and her son died in the apartment. Polonio Peralta, who lived in Philadelphia, agreed to take care of the building while his old pal, the regular super, was in the Dominican Republic.

Peralta was supposed to go home Sunday, but stayed an extra day when his friend extended his trip.

He was working in the basement when he came upon the gruesome scene, police sources said.

Vellon beat Peralta's face to a pulp, sources said. The man later died at St. Barnabas Hospital.

"He was an old man. He didn't hurt anybody," said nephew Claudio Infante, 50. "He was all about his family. It's a shame, a real shame for him to die that way."

Valdez had kicked the unemployed Vellon out of her apartment last month after months of physical and verbal abuse, neighbors said. "They ended on bad terms," said her friend Yvonne Frasier, 47. "He abused her. She didn't want him to come back."

Valdez's son had tried to protect her, but he was emotionally disturbed and would wander the neighborhood in his pajamas carrying a samurai sword, neighbors said.

Vellon, who had a record of previous assaults, was arrested Oct. 2 .after he slashed tires, broke windshields and battered the door of Mega Radio Dispatch Inc. on Westchester Ave. in a rage after Valdez escaped from him by getting .into one of the company's cabs, a police source said.

In that incident, Vellon also wielded a dumbbell, as well as brass knuckles and a butterfly knife, witnesses said.

"It was kind of crazy," said cab dispatcher T.J. Trinidad, 19, describing Vellon's earlier rampage.

"The lady came and ordered a cab. She was crying. After she left, the man came and bashed the windows in. He said nothing. He broke the front windows. . . . He started breaking car windshields and windows," he said.

Vellon was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief, but he was released on his own recognizance."

Cue Twilight Zone Music...

"The line for the girls' room just got longer.

Men who live as women can now legally use women's rest rooms in New York's transit system under an unprecedented deal revealed yesterday.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority agreed to allow riders to use MTA rest rooms "consistent with their gender expression," the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund announced yesterday.

The Transgender Legal...WTF? Sweet christ on a crutch but these guys have hit upon the perfect con. Stuff some falsies into your sweater, declare yourself transgenderized, then waltz into the ladies room.

"The group filed a complaint against the MTA on behalf of a 70-year-old telephone repair technician who was arrested for using the women's room at Grand Central Terminal.

The technician, who is assigned to the terminal by Verizon, was born Henry McGuinness but now goes by Helena Stone.

"I'm a 24-hour woman," Stone declared proudly. "I just feel like a woman and I like to wear women's clothes."

I enjoy getting into women's clothes, too, so where's the Horny Guy Defense And Education Razzmatazz for the rest of us? Isn't that what being a liberal is all about? Making sure that all people get to do what they want, when they want, as long as it doesn't involve acting like an adult?

And "consistent with their gender expression", does this mean that I can deck a pinko anytime I want? Toss a liberal off a brick wall? Grab a guy wearing a baseball cap in a fancy restaurant by the nape of the neck and dunk his face into the soup? You know, express myself as a man?

Following this logic, Hillary Clinton gets to use the men's room.

The Red-Blooded American Version Of ATF

The Olsen Twins Of The White Nationalist Movement

Known as "Prussian Blue" these tykes from Bakersfield, California, have been singing songs about white nationalism since they were nine.

"We're proud of being white, we want to keep being white," said Lynx. "We want our people to stay white … we don't want to just be, you know, a big muddle. We just want to preserve our race."

Guess that means no Minstrel Shows for these kids. Shame too. Betcha the one on the right would look damned cute in blackface. Clicking the headline link takes you to their official website where you may learn more about how to be a total freaking idiot and formally surrender your right to be referred to as homo sapien. Not that I'm tickled frickin pink about how minorities have been given coddled and given preference over smarter, more capable folk, but the way to cure that is to do away with welfare, force them to work, dismantle affirmative action programs EVERYWHERE, and send the dangerous ones to prison for the rest of their lives. The ones that we don't flat out execute, that is.

But it is up to the LAW. Not the Hitler Twins.

Islamist Holiday Video Calls for Jihad and Slaughter of "Crusaders"

"This ten-minute video ( http://switch3.castup.net/cunet/gm.asp?ai=214&ar=M4-006&ak=null ), titled "Rise Up," was posted on Islamist websites on October 22, 2006, and was described as "a gift for 'Eid Al-Fitr." Produced by an individual identified as "Abu Osama" (whose real identity is unknown), it calls on the Muslims to wage jihad against the "Crusaders." A caption in the film explains that Abu Osama produced the film on the occasion of the establishment of the Islamic State of Iraq.

The film begins with footage of horsemen under the caption: "O ye who believe! What is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter" (Koran 9:38).

Next, several Al-Qaeda leaders and commanders, including bin Laden, Al-Zawahiri, Al-Zarqawi and a number of unidentified young men (who may be field commanders or intended suicide bombers) call upon the Muslims to join the jihad. The following are excerpts:

Al-Zawahiri says: "I urge you, in [the name of] the duty of jihad, which is incumbent upon every Muslim, to hurry and pursue martyrdom in order to kill the Crusaders and the Zionists." An armed individual calls: "[Oh] defenders of the faith, hurry and prepare [for jihad], this is no time for [internal] disagreement." Another individual, sitting under a banner that reads, "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula," asks: "Are there no men in this nation?" and a masked individual declares: "Jihad is ancient, and the fate of [all] infidel leaders is one and the same: to be slaughtered."

The video then shows a scene in which a man is beheaded. This is followed by another beheading, even more grisly, in which the severed head is waved in the air. (Both scenes, and another graphic scene, have been omitted from the version of the film posted here, but are available upon request)."

So then, where is CAIR? Do they agree with such a proclamation? Mulling it over? Tell you what WOULD get them to respond is if ANY Christian or Jewish group said, okay, bring it on, and while we're at it, how's about WE declare a jihad on YOUR asses?

For that matter, where do "peaceful" moslems stand on this? Think I'll sit back and await word form the moslem world condemning such rhetoric.

What's that? But don't hold my breath? There are no peaceful moslems, because if there were they'd be bashing such warmongering? Many times over, and for the past several years, at least?

Good point. Hasn't been a peep out of islam save to promote killing. If there were moslems wanting to halt the worldwide bloodshed we'd have heard from them by now.

The True Meaning Of Gun Control...

...Is of course, controlling your gun...

"An NYPD sergeant pulled his gun in a dimly lighted upper East Side apartment packed with partyers early yesterday - and accidentally wounded a 15-year-old boy when someone bumped the cop's arm, police sources said.

The sergeant, with 14 years on the force, told investigators he took out his weapon in the housing project apartment and pointed it at Luke Saintil when the teen appeared to reach for his waistband, the sources said.

But Luke, who was hit in the calf, disputed that account, as did other partygoers, among them the adult son of a local assemblyman.

Witnesses also suggested that cops entered the wrong apartment, saying the call for help police were responding to apparently came from another nearby building.

"I didn't reach into my waistband," Luke, of Staten Island, told the Daily News from his bed at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell.

Police sources said among the six uniformed officers who came to the ninth floor of 419 E. 93rd St. about 1:15 a.m., two sergeants drew their guns. One fired a single shot when someone bumped his arm, sources said.

"No one was even near him," Luke insisted. "He was in the center of the room."

A source said last night that it wasn't clear whether the youth was hit by a bullet or by a bullet fragment from a ricochet.

Police said they got a call to investigate a shooting and a fight involving guns at the ninth-floor apartment at the Stanley Isaacs Houses, a public housing complex. But witnesses among the 50 or so young adults and older teens at the party said there was no fight.

Luke, who friends said was drinking at the party - and who sources said has three past arrests - recalled looking at the cop before he was shot.

Then his leg went numb. "I began to hop," the Curtis High School student said. "I looked down and saw blood in my shoes and socks."

The shooting was under investigation late yesterday, and police couldn't immediately say whether it fell within guidelines or if there were clear rules governing cops' conduct in dark, crowded spaces.

"There's no training for every circumstance," a high-ranking police official said. "Sometimes it's a judgment call."

While police continued their investigation, Luke's mother said she's contacted a lawyer.

"My son is no angel, but he didn't deserve this," said Penny Saintil, adding the bullet or fragment in her son's leg couldn't immediately be removed because it is dangerously close to an artery. "They didn't have the right to shoot a gun into a room full of kids."

In an odd twist, Saintil said cops kicked her out of her son's hospital room about 5 p.m., claiming he was under arrest. In fact, Luke had not been arrested, and police officials insisted she was ordered to leave only until they could confirm she was his mother.

Police found an unloaded 9-mm. handgun in a closet after everyone had been cleared out, officials said.

A police source said a pair of siblings - identified by partygoers as Juanita, 20, and Raymond, 19 - could be charged in connection with the gun and for allegedly serving alcohol to minors.

Witnesses suggested that the cops responded to the wrong apartment. They said some officers were asking residents how to find 1809 First Ave., which is directly across the courtyard from the apartment where the teen was shot.

"I could see a fight on the other terrace," said Terrance Grannis, 21, referring to a 15th-floor apartment across the way. "I'm sure the cops came looking for that fight, but they saw so many people coming in and out of this building, they stopped here." "There was no fight here, just partying," said Grannis, the son of Assemblyman Pete Grannis (D-Manhattan)."

On any given weekend night, there are more fights, more gunshots, more minorities swinging and kicking and stomping and beating and knifing one another than can be attended to, so the police get a pass for showing up at perhaps the wrong jungle party.

But please now. Squeezing off a shot from a Glock with a NY 1 Trigger because someone bumped into your arm? The gun went off all by it's lonesome? Try that as a defense if you aren't a member of law enforcement.

Wait, someone in NY just did and the jury didn't believe him either. And he had to contend with a 5 pound pull versus the NY 1's 11 pound pull.
