The Self-Appointed National Scolds Are In Rare Form...

No, not George Will. Rather the lefties he writes about.

..."lies, deception, immorality, corruption, and widespread labor, human rights and environmental abuses" and of bringing "great hardship and despair to people and communities throughout the world.

What is this focus of evil in the modern world? North Korea? The Bush administration? Fox News Channel?

No, it is Coca-Cola."

George Will has fun with numbers as he praises Wal-Mart. The numbers lie. Yes, the $6 package of Wal-Mart men's briefs will save the consumer $1. But that $1 is a shortlived one, as ALL products sold by the retail giant are made specifically FOR the retail giant and purchasing such threadbare fare means you'll be buying MORE in the long run. The $200 billion Wal-Mart shoppers save THIS year will cost them an additional $300 billion over the course of the next 2 years, and what about this savings...

$200 billion as compared to what? $200 billion as compared to shopping for the most expensive men's briefs, and NOT for similar products purchased at say Target, where the difference is minimal.

Fun with numbers. Conservatives are supposed to love Wal-Mart. What Wal-Mart does so cunningly well is to trick the consumer into buying shoddy products and therefore spending more money. That's the big-business way. More power to them. But don't lie to my face and try to convince me that hoodwinking a gullible customer base into spending more means they'll somehow save.

Why do consumers behave this way? It's called instant gratification, but that's the liberal modus operandi, and not a conservative one.

That liberals have attacked virtually EVERY big company in the country is of no surprise. Neither is the fact that George Will loves Wal-Mart. He, after all, never had to return box after box of bad ammo.

So why DO conservatives love the hell out of Wally World? Because it's fashionable, and many have mistakenly believed Wal-Mart to be a right-leaning corporation.

Not so.

"...The study by researcher David Hogberg, now a senior analyst at the National Center for Public Policy Research, found that of the $150 million in donations given by Wal-Mart in 2004, only $2,530 went to politically right-of-center organizations while 289 times as much went to left-of-center think tanks, a total of $732,350."

Kind of hard to hate China and love Wal-Mart at the same time. Very hard.
