Stoutest Colt .45 Ammunition

Bullets that work well in SAA handguns as well as the .45 Colt Marlin 1894:

The Lyman 452424, the 454424 HP, the RCBS 45-270-SAA, the Lyman 452629, the NEI 310 FP, the NEI 330 SWC, the SSK 335, and the SSK 368.

240 to 270 grain bullets will usually shoot to point of aim from fixed sight revolvers and carbines at 25 yards when stoked to between 700 and 850 feet per second for the handgun, and up to 1700 fps in a 18-20" lever action carbine/rifle.This is close, very close to the heaviest of .44 magnum loads, but be aware that weapons chambered for the magnum are usually stouter or design than those made for 25,000 psi Colt's. Semi-wadcutter and lead flatnose bullets are suitable for dangerous game up to 1000 pounds, and herbivore hunting to twice that size.
