Senate Rejects Amendment Stripping Iraq Withdrawal Timetable From Supplemental Bill
WASHINGTON — "Senate Democrats won a vote Tuesday that would leave in place a timetable to begin a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq within 120 days. A measure to strike the language was offered as an amendment to the emergency spending bill for Iraq and Afghanistan.
The 48-50 vote was a reversal of a 50-48 vote earlier this month rejecting a similar timetable. Democrats were able to win the support of both Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel and Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson, who previously had voted against timetables. Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas also opposed the earlier version..."
