Pawnshop/Range Review

Northern Florida.

Beckwith's Pistol Range
Off Hwy 441, Micanopy, FL 32667
904-466-0320.

Big old pawn shop with just about everything a shooter would need. Handguns, rifles, and shotguns. And ridiculous prices. A used Kel-Tec 32 was going for $310, and thats around $60 over out-the-door new. Taurus snub nose, 5-shot .38 was another laugh. $260 for a gun that can be had for the same price brandy new if one shops around. Pretty much all of his guns were MSRP and it didn't matter if they were right from the factory or 10 years old. An awful lot were on consignment, and that means no dealing of any kind because the owner has to make his money and so does the shop. I do plan on going back with a fistfull of cash and asking to speak with the owner, but that's when I have the time as better deals can be had elsewhere and without the fuss.

Didn't get to check out the range because it was closed, but we'll be going back and I'll have a full report soon.Less than 20 miles from my door, and while the shop prices were out of line the range is cheap. $6.00 per person per half hour and you can bring your own ammo.

PS: Lisa liked a much used S&W .38 snubby the best of all of the guns she held. The Taurus snub was close, but a tad heavier and pointed a little high for her hand. Both were far too expensive for so little gun, but it's good that she got to size things up. She'll be getting her CWP soon and even my Glock 27 is a bit bulky for so feminine a gal to be packing, and to tell the truth I'm happy she liked the snub nose .38's over the smallish semi-automatics.

5-for-sure beats 9-maybe any day. And a .32 magnum might be just the ticket if we cannot locate a reasonable .38.
