Wishing Him Well

I hate when bad writers get book deals. Happens for many reasons, and far more talented people get the shaft for just as many reasons. That's why I wish Steve all the best in writing, publishing, and selling his book.

Here's the glitch. It often doesn't matter how well you write, what matters is how your agent, editor, and publisher present the work to the public. An effort from a conservative white guy about how he fooled stupid African black guys can be the funniest thing in the world but if it's looked upon in a certain light, it, and he as a writer, are doomed to failure. And blacklisting under whatever name he chooses to have on the cover.

It has always puzzled me why a major publishing house would touch such a thing with a ten-foot-pole, but I know nothing about what the work will look like in it's final incarnation. If handled properly, this COULD be an important stepping stone in Steve's writing career. If botched, he becomes the butt of everyone's lame ass joke.

And hiss and boo to the idjits bitching about the dearth of posts. Writing a book is one time consuming son of a bitch. He has chosen to give it his best effort and so what if his fans are put off by the scarcity of Hoggish tomfoolery. It's his friggin blog. Write your own damned web log if you don't like what's coming from his. If you liked the guy then stand behind his decision. That's what friends, even web friends, are for.
