Yesterday, in cities across the country, hundreds of thousands of people threw what amounted to a nationwide temper tantrum in service of a not-very-subtle effort to nullify the law.
Illegals skipped work, held rallies, kept kids out of school, boycotted American shops and products. In the city, they formed human chains at several locations - to symbolize unity with Americans.
How effective the various boycotts were wasn't clear.
But there were costs: Some firms had to close for the day, trim their hours or operate short-handed. Some areas incurred extra police costs - and endured traffic jams and other inconveniences.
Make no mistake: America is not wrong to insist on an orderly immigration process. Maybe more immigrants should be allowed in faster. But with a totally open-door policy, America would quickly become overwhelmed with newcomers.
Yesterday's protests were meant to win sympathy for immigrants' plight.
Instead, they reminded everyone of America's urgent need to gain control of its borders.

Imagine a crook breaking into your house, then complaining to the world that you shouldn't have called the cops and you've the illegal immigration story in a nutshell.

As peaceloving a fella as I am, if I've the legal right to, I'm squeezing. Their little one-for-all and all-for-us rally proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they don't want in our our terms.
