And For Stopping The Ultimate Predator

Hardcast Lead: .45" hole

Semi-jacketed .45 Hollowpoint: .55" hole

Modern Personal Defense Hollowpoint: .80" and greater sized hole.

The guns of George Armstrong Custer's day packed plenty of punch. Sadly, for the flatheaded...strike that...FLATNOSE, devotees, this is not George Armstrong Custer's day. Modern ammunition makes bigger holes. All else being equal, bigger holes are better than smaller holes.

Repeat after me: Elmer Keith is dead. Jeff Cooper has contributed next to nothing because in his world shot placement is not everything, it's the only thing. Since the Colonel never had to return fire in the state of "blind in one eye and can't see out of the other", he has no point of reference from which to draw different conclusions, and is therefore unqualified to speak on the matter. Those that have been unequal to the task of shooting a kite string at 100 yards due to wounds making such marksmanship impossible, will tell you that counting on one's ability to make good shots during battle is the dumbest goddamned thing they've ever heard.
