Acupuncturists Claim Pressure Points In Ear Are Connected To The Tummy

Why does ANY state need an acupuncture board? Because needles can be deadly. Con men sticking to cure what ails you and passing along deadly diseases is not cool. Sad to see that this bunkery is given any attention that might appear to legitimize such voodoo. Stapling your cat will cause you to lose the same amount of weight as stapling yourself. Maybe Moxie can help us with this. Not that her sveltness needs such Swingline attentions, but she does have lotsa cats.

Florida: Stapling your ear won't fight your gut

Some people say putting surgical staples in your ear can help you lose weight. Florida's Board of Acupuncture very strongly disagrees. Don't put staples in your ear, they say -- whatever pressure points you're hitting, you're not getting a diet miracle.

The St. Petersburg Times has the trend story you probably didn't expect to read this morning. The story begins with a woman who says ear-stapling helped her lose 83 pounds. She now runs an ear-stapling business. Back-and-forth follows. Florida officials and several of the state's acupuncture industry leaders are against it. The president of the Arkansas-based Professional Ear Stapling Association defends the practice.

"One pressure point [in the ear] relates to the stomach and appetite," the Times explains. "Stimulated properly, acupuncturists say it reduces hunger and increases thirst for water, which is necessary for burning fat. But they dismiss advertised claims of a 'miracle' staple and say that 'stapling' a pressure point in the ear alone will not lead to weight loss."
