A Critical Guide To The 2nd Amendment

"Tench Coxe (PA. delgate to the Continental Congress) made this point in a commentary on the Second Amendment. Coxe explained the purpose of the Amendment this way:

As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the next article in their right to keep and bear their private arms.

Similarly, Madison himself wrote that a regular army that threatened liberty would find itself opposed by "a militia amounting to near a half a million citizens with arms in their hands." Madison contrasted the situation in America with that obtaining under the European governments, whom he described as "afraid to trust the people with arms," and argued that the new federal government need not be feared because Americans possessed 'the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation.'"

What is absolutely crystal clear, was the intent of the 2nd Amendment according to the Founding Fathers. Men MUST have a right to protect themselves against agressors, be they common thieves or the government itself.

There is no "mystery", nor is it open to disinterpretation. It means what it says. And, as the old adage goes, what part of "Shall not be infringed" do the gun grabbers have a problem understanding?

And let's not forget the law. During revolutionary times, town constables were employed to keep the peace, and never in their wildest dreams could the Founders have imagined modern police departments. Had they the barest inkling, they certainly would have included law enforcement and it's plethora of firearms as intrinsically wrong as a standing army that is permitted weaponry unavailable to the law abiding citizen.

Liberal politicians and modern law enforcement have made it impossible for the average "civilian" to even think of bearing modern arms without being labelled certifiably insane, and let us not forget the mainstream media that brands a man a gun-nut at the drop of a hat.

We trust soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and police departments, to use the tools of their trade wisely, and shudder at the very thought of our next door neighbor hiding a machinegun in the basement.

Face the facts like a man. We've become second class citizens. Where is OUR Martin Luther King who will lead US out of bondage?
