The Only Ones Negligently Killing One Another Enough

Gun range accident: Cop kills fellow officer

A Gary auxiliary police officer was killed Saturday afternoon when a fellow volunteer officer's gun accidentally discharged a bullet into the man's chest.

Nope. The fellow officer's gun did nothing of the sort. Guns do not act on their own volition, and the officer was killed by the abject negligence of one of his fellows.

Kevin Weaver, 49, died at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer. He and two other reserve officers were training at Deb's Gun Range in Hammond, Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said.

About 3 p.m., Gary police said Reserve Officer Gerald Horton, 52, was attempting to clear his weapon when Weaver accidentally bumped into Horton, causing Horton's gun to fire a .45-caliber round."

Nope X 2. Horton's gun did not decide to fire a round, but did so because Horton squeezed the trigger.

Innocent people are killed, seemingly every day, by the criminal negligence of another, and calling it an accident is passing the buck while trying to obfuscate the real reason for such atrocities.

One man was criminally incompetent with his weapon and killed the man standing next to him. Fess up, learn up, and act like a man. No one is EVER taught to "clear a weapon" by positioning a finger on the trigger. While at the range, the only time a finger should be on the trigger is during the act of shooting. Placing a finger on the trigger means you fully intend to shoot something, which is what Officer Horton did.
