"GUN-FREE" BRITAIN AGAIN

"The Packington estate, so decrepit that it is scheduled for demolition, lies between streets of neat Victorian and Georgian terraces in the otherwise leafy borough of Islington, north London. Last Thursday three boys, all aged 15, sat in the estate's ramshackle play park eating Skittles and shooting the breeze.

Even though two of them had their hoods up they were not especially intimidating. None had been excluded from school and when asked who they wanted to win this year's Big Brother they cheerily replied, "that one who's got Tourette's". These were normal inner-city boys. Nice, even. Yet when asked whether they ever carried knives around the neighbourhood or had tried to take one to school, all three responded with a dismaying "for sure".

To prove it one boy - who, incidentally, had an innocent smile and sunny disposition - reached into the folds of his tracksuit and pulled out a small kitchen knife, the sort you might use to chop mushrooms. This, he explained, was for "protection". Perhaps it was to be expected. In recent weeks numerous reports of citizens attacked and slain have fostered the notion that every other hoodie in Britain is carrying a concealed blade.

There were more than 50 knife attacks over the bank holiday weekend alone and horror stories involving good-hearted samaritans apparently breaking up public fights only to be knifed to death have multiplied."

Forget what you think of the UK from familiarization with the anomoly that is Tony Blair. Britain has reached as low as France in disarming it's citizens while coddling militant-moslems (I know, I know, there's no such a thing as a non-militant one) and is a decade away from a genuine civil war that'll make the fuss in Iraq seem tame by comparison.

The only 'citizens' with weapons are the bad guys, and the police are woefully undertrained to deal with any large scale uprising as they proved after the London bombings when plainclothesmen chased down an innocent man who misunderstood their intentions, then shot him in the head as he lie on the ground in the arms of a restraining officer.

I fervently hope that our good guys have been teaching their good guys the ropes, because they're going to need ever last scintilla of knowledge in the years to come. And heavens forbid they allow the public to defend itself, but really now, how could they?

Imagine Miami with open-carry. It's reached the point in England as well as some of the border states here, whereby immigrants of dubious merit would create unparalleled havoc were they permitted to pack heat, and I never thought I'd even THINK of restricting the right to bear arms to any living American or reasonable facsimile. A great many of the ones who do pass the citizenship tests are allowed to have proctors or how else can you explain the fact that they've achieved such status without speaking more than a word or two of broken English?

The fix has been IN for quite some time, and I'm ashamed of myself for being so clueless for so long. I'd imagined that certain minorities would simply revert back to the mother tongue so to speak, but people in NYC as, South Florida, Kalifornia, Texas, and Arizona, laugh at that childish fantasia. The Clinton Administration was great guns for kidnapping children BACK to Cuba, and sending snipers to shoot women pushing baby carriages, but turned a deaf ear to our internal and external defenses.

And that's one of the reasons it disgusts me to hear President Bush offer so inadequate a response to our illegal immigrant problem, and yes, I know that he knows the House would never agree to such nonsense and politics is politics but we didn't elect him to take halfway measures in anything. He ran on being the anti-Clinton, we believed him and want more.

But back to the Brits. We've already heard tell of the prospect of edged-weapon-control measures in the UK, and all I can recommend to those unfortunate dupes who've become so accustomed to being made peasants by their well protected upper crust, is to awaken SOON from the slumber of babes and take back their country beginning yesterday. But we all know that will not happen, the adults among us are aware of the simple fact that Europe can't defend itself and relies upon America to come to the rescue.
