It's been suggested that I stop being a sissy and just get a Taurus .500 Magnum snubbie instead of fiddle frigging around with a Ruger Alaskan in .44 or .454, and the idea has merit but I sort of like the flexibility of the other two calibers, and there aren't exactly a plethora of bullets in .500 mag that are specifically designed for human targets. I'll shoot the Alaskan in 44 mag then look around for who has a .500 to play with.
Two things; I don't believe it's possible to go wrong with either of the 3 mentioned calibers, and someone would have to be a stark raving maniac to consider carrying any of them on a daily basis.
That's probably why it appeals to me.
