Robbery Suspect Shot, Killed By Store Clerk

"A robbery suspect was shot and killed by his would-be victim inside an Oakland Park clothing store Monday night.

About 7:30 p.m., a silent hold-up alarm was detected at the Corner Urban Wear store at the Buglewood Plaza on Oakland Park Boulevard. Moments later, a 911 call was received indicating that a shooting had occurred at the same location.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded and found Hung Nguyen, 17, of Lauderhill, shot to death inside the store.

The store clerk, who remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, told deputies two men entered the store armed with guns and intended to rob the place. The clerk said he pulled out a handgun and shot one of the men. The second man fled on foot.

Deputies, K-9 units and a BSO helicopter searched the area for more than two hours but could not locate the other attempted robber. He is considered to be armed and dangerous."

Gee. Ya think?

Takes a certain sort of stones to draw down on two men who've gotten the drop on you, along with a fair degree of skill to perform a one-shot-stop. You know, that nebulous, impossible, downright legendary one squeeze doing the trick, ESPECIALLY...as the experts tell us time and again...from so impotent a weapon as a handgun. Luckily for me, I was unaware of this fact during most of my time in the service, and only recently have begun to understand how fortunate I was to perform the impossible, time and again. Now I know better, and would shoot to slide lock, reload, rinse and repeat.

Just wish I could speak with the gentleman who scored this cleansing of the gene pool, and learn from an obvious master who must possess secrets far and beyond the ken of most mortal men.

Good job, dude.

But wait. Looking back upon the myriad instances of such daring-do, I find that many if not most of the time a mere one or two hits results in one or two dead denizens of the asphalt jungle, and now I'm all confused.

Guess I just ain't cut out for this stuff.
