BERNE, N.Y. (AP) _ "An Albany County sheriff's deputy shot a fellow member of a drug detail in the hand while trying to kill an attacking dog Thursday.
The drug detail was at a marijuana field at an old farm in the rural town of Berne when a man came out of a dilapidated farmhouse, said Albany County Sheriff James Campbell. The police officer tried to take the man into custody but he broke free and ran into the woods.
Campbell says a big mixed-breed dog then attacked the officer, who called out to his fellow officers for help. The sheriff's deputy shot and killed the dog, but the bullet also struck the right hand of the officer.
The wounded officer was flown to Westchester Medical Center for surgery. The names of the officer and sheriff's deputy were not released.
The man at the farm, Kevin O'Reilly, 38, of Greenville, was captured and arrested on charges of burglary, growing marijuana, and resisting arrest.
Campbell would not comment further on the shooting, Which is still under investigation by the internal affairs departments of both agencies. "
First off, who believes the BS that only ONE shot was fired at the dog, and just happened to penetrate through and through, thus hitting a nearby officer. The under-trained deputy needs a lot of downtime on the job and lots more uptime on the range.
And as David Codrea notices, why is it that they can publish the identity of every Tom, Dick, and Harry involved in a shooting, but forever try to withhold the names of the cops involved?
