So very many people aver that the GP is too thick and heavy to carry, but 40 ounces or so with a full load just isn't that big a deal. I had the old goblin spanker out for some chronograph work, and the smallish .0025" cylinder gap amazes just about everyone.
As well as the chrono.
Double-Tap 125 grain Gold Dots: 1624 fps
Double-Tap 158 grain Gold Dots: 1432 fps
Eldorado Starfire 150 grain jhp's: 1316 fps
Speer Gold Dot 158 grain: 1328 fps
Federal Hi Shok 125 grain: 1497 fps
The Hogue recoil-tamers make it a breeze to shoot, and returned the following groups at 25 yards, offhand:
Federal: 2. 2"
Speer: 2.45"
Double-Tap 158: 2.5"
Double-Tap 125: 2.6"
Eldorado Starfire: 2.6"
I'd imagine a Ransom would shrink these holes closer together, but the above are quite good enough for self-defense purposes. I'll continue to carry the GP on and off with the G-27 and 23 until winter is upon us, where I'll then switch to the Alaskan.
