Time Out

I've been shooting in between bouts of ennui brought on by age and living with a six-foot blonde, hence the paucity of posts. Every bloody time I attempt a difinitive compilation of defensive ammunitions it drives me to distraction. There are simply too many factors to take into consideration, and the stink from making ballistic gelatin seems to permeate the very fiber of my being. What I'm whining about is burning the candle at both ends and not doing what someone retired is supposed to be doing. Namely, nothing that requires effort. With my luck I'll hit upon the magic bullet then drop dead from the effort so it's time to relax.

And please, have mercy and stop sending me quotes from Massad Ayoob. Tracking down this man's errors is a full time job, and agree or disagree but the guy is a flaming idiot without redemption and I'm not going to spend days at a time referencing cases where he flat out lied or offered fiction for fact. To make a decent living writing about guns one must have a hook, and his is made of daydreams that tweak the casual reader enough to assure a return engagement. I've stopped taking him seriously after too many "I talked to the court and the court listened..." cases, where he actually testified at a departmental hearing and was made the laughing stock when one interlocutor or another referenced his changing opinions about the same subject manner. The one that I laughed at the most was the "case" of the female FBI recruit who threatened to sue the bureau when she flunked out of training because of her inability to shoot "man-sized" handguns. Ayoob offered to testify before a hearing and agreed with her, then had to shut the hell up when a mediator brought up an old article of his that praised the very same gun Ayoob now claimed was incompatible with feminine hands. In other words, the gun he once recommended for gals was the one he now wanted to testify as being unsuitable for them. That's not just cherry-picking, that's being a flip-flopping asshole. Also, his rendition of the infamous 1986 FBI shootout is so laden with errors as to be rendered useless.

Serious men take no sides. They offer opinions and recommendations based upon the available data. Ayoob and those like him are in it for the money and cannot be trusted. Anyway, I'm finally going to bed.

NEW

This link will whisk you to The Gun Zone. Now, Dean Spier, who owns the joint, is an asshole but an honest one as far as I can tell. He let his hatred of Glock get the better of him and started a lot of KABOOM innuendo that left him a pariah in the gun writers business. At this link you'll find information about the 1986 Miami Shootout. While at The Gun Zone, however, dismiss anything you see authored by Massad Ayoob. Dean seems to have taken him under his wing because no one else would. Ayoob, amongst other character flaws, is a gello-hater. Gello doesn't sell books. STOPPING POWER information does, so Massad favors that route.
