Concealed Weapon Or Firearm License...Cost Thereof

"Why does Florida carry licenses cost to much?"

It's about $100 for the whole schmear (sans any training fees if one is not LEO or military), and good for 5 years. The thinking goes something like this; there are certain types of people who, while not having any KNOWN criminal record as a strike against them, would like to acquire a Florida CWOFL, Concealed Weapon Or Firearm License, but since they are not employed and therefore without the funds to acquire said permit, tend to rush right out and mug someone for the cash. These "types" are incredibly stupid, invariably caught, so the somewhat hefty fee is in fact it's own sting operation.

From the day I mailed my application, it took 6 working days to receive the license. The offices are well staffed by amazingly polite people who answer emails, do all they can to help with the process, and I for one am glad to see such good folks gainfully employed. I have never, ever heard of anyone in Florida complaining about getting the typical "Who dat, say what?" reply from an illiterate civil servant as is the case in many other states. The gal who took my prints was so helpful and included notations to the fact that my hands are so scarred as to make otherwise legible prints appear smudged, and re-did the electronic process over and over until she was sure it at least somewhat resembled a human hand.

From start to finish it is actually a low-stress, somewhat pleasurable experience conducted by comely, well mannered professionals, and how often do you hear that being said about dealing with any government agency?

Pay the money. Keep those guys and gals on the job. They work damned hard for you.
