Cop Charged In Playstation Shooting...

WILMINGTON, N.C. — "A New Hanover County sheriff's deputy who was fired last week was charged Monday with killing a teenager who was accused of stealing two PlayStation 3 video game consoles.

The charges were filed in the death of Peyton Strickland, who was shot in the head Dec. 1 as deputies and police from UNC Wilmington converged on the house he shared with friends while attending Cape Fear Community College.

The officers were there to serve a warrant that accused Strickland and two others of armed robbery and assault.

District Attorney Ben David said today that the grand jury indicted Christopher Long, but cleared two other deputies who had been suspended during the investigation. Long — a 12-year veteran of the sheriff's department — was fired Friday."

I genuinely detest stories such as this. The details remain more than sketchy, but it was obvious from the get go that the deputies, one in particular, obviously, were working on a hair trigger as they approached the suspect to serve a warrant. From all indications it appears that an otherwise good cop let his nerves get the better of him, and I for one wouldn't do that job for all the tea in China. We ask these men and women to be 100% perfect 100% of the time, and there but for the grace of God....
