The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is presenting an Evening Commemorating Uncommon Valor, the Battle of Iwo Jima. This unique event will be held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on February 23, the day in 1945 when the flag was raised on Mt Suribachi and photographed by Joe Rosenthal.
The evening will begin with a social hour in the Museum's Tun Tavern, a replica 1775 pub, where legend has it that the Marine Corps was founded. Dinner will follow in the Mess Hall where guests will enjoy a repast featuring menu items from the Corps' trove of secret receipts.
After dinner, guests will be escorted to the Scuttlebutt Theater to watch "To The Shores of Iwo Jima," combat footage of the battle, which received the 1946 Academy Award for short documentaries. Following the film, veterans of the battle will relate their personal accounts and answer questions.
To top off the evening, individual photographs of attendees will be taken with the flag in the Iwo Jima exhibit. The evening will commence at 1700 with a cash bar followed by dinner and the film.
Tickets are $35, advance reservations required. RSVP by February 20
