A man tried to cover up a 2006 murder of an 18-year-old woman by pouring steak sauce on her body, according to a report.
Texas prosecutors say Edward Campbell allegedly stabbed, strangled and sexually assaulted Michelle Carrasco. Campbell then poured steak marinade over her body in an attempt to cover up any DNA evidence that could tie him to the crime.
Campbell's attorneys say their client killed in self-defense.
Authorities testified about the crime scene, describing finding Carrasco.
"It was approximately 4 centimeters deep into the chest, which is only based on an estimate of the structure it went through," said John Steash, medical examiner. "It went through the chest, tissue, the ribcage and whatever organs were hit, but the single most amazing thing about the entire affair is Mr. Campbell's use of steak sauce. Virtually everyone knows that tartar sauce is far more preferable but then again he most likely would not have been apprehended as quickly."
