Trivia For An Otherwise Quiet Thursday: The Marine Corps Hymn Once Was A 4-Stanza Song

When we were called across the sea to stand for home and right,
With the spirit of the brave and free, we fought with all our might;
When we helped to stem the German drive, they say we fought like fiends,
And the French rechristened Belleau Woods for the United States Marines.

The missing 3rd stanza was removed circa 1930 in order to make peace with the Germans who were still feeling really really sad for alla that WWI schtick and promised to never ever do bad stuff again.

Um...Guest? Can I call you Guest? As a retired Marine, I can call the bloody damned thing anything I bloody damned want. It CAN be simply referred to a the Marines Hymn, yes, but the ORIGINAL title, known by many an old salt, was the Marine Corps Hymn. Perhaps nowadays its fashionable to ABBREVIATE everything but not my Marine Corps Hymn.

Now drop and give me 20.
