Most everyone I know raves about J&G Sales, and while I've never personally owned a Shooters Arms .45 ACP an acquaintance has and can't stop raving about the bang for the buck.

The pictured* gun is $379.95, so add $26 for shipping and another $15-$25 for your lazy ass local gunshop to do nothing but receive the weapon and log in the paperwork, and like them Frenchies say, vi-oh-la.

Everyone at one time or another should own some version of John Browning's masterpiece.

*Sorry but Google is tossing fits and won't allow me to add a pic, so if interested merely click the J&G link to be whisked away to where you'll find one.
