Police seek gun gangs summit

"Senior police officers may seek meetings with London's most violent gangs to curb the culture of guns.

The tactic, pioneered in the US, will warn youths that unless they stop tit-for-tat killings they will face a zero-tolerance crackdown.

Currently, police find themselves in Gang-COM-2, which can be likened to 'almost zero-tolerance', and have been hesitant to step up to Gang-COM-1 because, as most senior officers have said time and again, if that doesn't work then they can't go any higher and would therefore be stymied. However, certain are recommending a drop to Gang-COM-3, or 'getting real close to zero-tolerance', so as to give enough warning to ensure Gang-COM-1, a fighting chance of success.

'We go off shootin into zero without no warnin' it'd be right barmy', a senior official told Press Associated News, 'step by step is the way old son then Bob's your uncle for sure.'"
