As for me, I believe that the country is long overdue for a major public works project, and would love to see Congress fund a modern version of Operation Wetback. We'd need temporary jails and all that goes along with them. Construction workers and masons and glaziers and road pavers. Guards and pencil pushers and food service staff. We'd need drivers and mechanics and of course a helluva lot MORE fulltime border police. The Minutemen could be officially deputized, and those not wishing to go armed could be their logistical support.
If we GOT SERIOUS we could DO THIS.
Not saying it could be done in a year or even 2. Protecting our borders should be a fulltime endeavor, and those who excelled at their jobs during Wetback 2008 would be first in line for the new permanent positions once the aliens have been rooted out and sent home.
And don't even ask where the money would come from because a Republican President and Conservative leaning Congress could cut enough of the pork to do something for the ENTIRE COUNTRY for a change. And not for nothing, but asking a free and up and running Iraq to chip in with a little payback cash wouldn't be out of the question.
We gave you back YOUR country.
