Hmmm...It's The Third Of July...So Isn't It About Time For...

...Another incredibly dumbass update to the Box O' Truth?

Sure am. This time around, our intrepid fella's from the shallow end of the gene pool are fiddlefrigging with bullets fired from Cowboy-Action type handguns, and since they haven't half a brain between them decided to compare modern hollowpoints with Keith-style semiwadcutters.

Wait, did I say "modern" hollowpoints? Sorry about that chief. The dunces...who can use virtually ANY cartridge they wish, free of charge...decided upon CCI Blazer 200 grainers. That's right, cheap practice ammunition, in 200 grains no less, to compare to 250 grainers, and guess what?

Yep. The wadcutters penetrated more deeply than the bargain-basement hollowpoints. And gosh gee willickers, but this had the boys all a'glow. Forget that jacketed and hard cast lead bullets penetrate far TOO deeply for anything but hunting purposes, and punching .45 caliber in and out holes in human targets pretty much went out with the concept of using nothing but black powder.

So what did they glean from a day of shooting water jugs?

Lessons learned:
1. JHP bullets aren't really much improvement on these big rounds. Even if they don't expand, they are still .45 inch wide.

2. Hard cast lead bullets will penetrate plenty deeply. Old Elmer Keith told stories of seeing horses shot with .45 Long Colt pistols in gun battles that had two holes in them....one going in and one going out the other side.

No lack of penetration.

And there you have it. Penetration is all that counts, ESPECIALLY when you're trying to kill horses, so remember that. Lesson #1 is so convoluted I haven't much of a clue as to what these numbnuts are trying to say, but I suppose that since PENETRATION is most important you might as well forget all of this hollowpoint nonsense and just stick with what the old cowboys used.

As always, we present updates from the Box O' Numbnuts for entertainment purposes only, because no one in their right mind should ever consider anything these clodhoppers post as worth much more than something to line a birdcage with.

Come to think of it, if they tire of this gig they can always go to work for the NY Times, so it's good practice.

REALITY REARS IT'S UGLY HEAD

A .45 caliber hole is a large one, all things considered. A .45 caliber bullet that flies straight through a target will not impart it's full amount of energy TO the target. Modern munitions can expand to more than TWICE that diameter, and dump all of the energy where it counts.

INSIDE. Not to the group of vacationing Nuns across the street. The NYPD went away from FMJ types of ammunition because in 1994 and 1995 they found over 80 cases of over-penetration that hit unintended targets. Unintended HUMAN targets. The damages done to everything from the neighborhood cat, to car windows, to front doors was incalculable.

Pay these idiots no mind. Use the correct weapon and ammunition to suit the job. But again, if wounding horses is your bag, then by all means follow their advice.
