The iron pillar of Dehli has been standing over 1600 years.
Without signs of corrosion. The process was thought to have been a gift from the heavens, but modern research indicates that the high level of Phosphorus in the iron itself led to a virtual rust-proofing, and that the inclusion of such Phosphorus was quite unintentional and merely a by-product of the smelting process. the fence was erected relatively recently because of the habit of tourists to stand alongside the pillar and perform all sorts of gyrations in petitioning Vishnu for good fortune.
So okay; I was loaded but wasn't harming anything.
