State Constitutions And The Second Amendment

Vermont - 1791

ARTICLE 16th. [RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS; STANDING ARMIES; MILITARY POWER SUBORDINATE TO CIVIL]

That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State - and as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; and that the military should be kept under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power.

New Jersey - 1787

Section 23 - RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS*

Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.

*The language is in the process of being changed, to include Wal-Marts right to remove State and Federal guarantees of Liberty just because it wants to.
