Bobby Abreu Watch...

Batting 5th as Joe Torre first envisioned him: .000. It was also the only time this season he's batted 5th.

Batting 3rd as was recommended by yours truly, and of course many others who know SOMETHING about baseball: .450.

Last 2 games versus the White Sox: 5 for 9.

Conclusion: Even Torre has got to understand that Abreu is the quintessential 3-hole hitter for the Yankees.

BUT...

When Sheffield and/or Matsui return, look for Torre to flip Abreu around so often as to neutralize one of the best such hitters in all of baseball.

If all remain healthy, the top three batters for NY should be

Damon
Jeter
Abreau

Written in STONE. Giambi bats cleanup versus righthanders, Sheff against lefties, with Rodriguez and Matsui back and forth with regards to THEIR righty-lefty matchups as well. This takes most of the stress from Rodriguez and is simply the best lineup imaginable.

Which means Torre will somehow manage to frig with it.
