How To Build A Secure Domicile

August 25, 2006 -- "The Long Island man who screamed about "Star Wars" and ninjas as he fired at cops trying to arrest him could face life behind bars for pulling the trigger, sources said yesterday.

Wade Booth, 46, whom cops described as having severe "psychiatric issues," remained quiet yesterday as a judge in Riverhead ordered him held without bail on charges of attempted murder of a police officer.

Booth, of Wading River, fired at law enforcement officers who went to his house Wednesday to arrest him on a bench warrant.

Cops then fired a withering volley of pepper-spray grenades and were flabbergasted when Booth held them off for roughly four hours. He was found hunkered down in a closet, which may have been rigged to insulate against the gas."

First of all, it didn't take them 4 hours to gain entry, but 11. His windows were barred, and the doors reinforced, but no evidence of a "rigged" closet was found unless you consider stuffing wet towels under the door rigging. Nor were pepper-spray grenades the ones employed by the Keystone U.S. Marshalls, as they came loaded for bear and fired dozens of tear gas cannisters into the house before Booth hid. What was a tense situation became comical when local residents offered assistance after watching the Marshalls and their battering rams bounce off of Mr. Booth's doors, but after hours of waiting, several heavy duty power saws arrived and entry was gained by nearly cutting the house in several quite jagged pieces.

It's a stretch thinking he'll spend "life behind bars" for cranking a shot into his own lawn, particularly when the shrinks come back with their reports that he's a certified nutcase who DOES need a lengthy stay at a local funny farm...BUT...the man DID put together one helluva safe-house.

And while this IS the perfect scenario for "COPS"...dozens of heavily armed men wrestling a half-naked psycho to the ground...it's doubtful that so botched an operation could be edited to appear as heroic as other episodes of Scream-At-Then-Jump-The-Junky, but we'll see.
