UPDATE: Homeowner Kills Teen During Alleged Home Invasion

“They can kill you but they can't eat you," says a Dollarway resident.

Gun fire ringing out is nothing new to neighbors in the Dollarway area of Pine Bluff.

“I am not armed, but as of right now I feel like I need to be armed," says neighbor Dwight Kates.

The latest shots came Thursday night when an armed 14-year-old boy reportedly kicked down the back door to Jimmy Shaw’s home on School St.

Detectives say Shaw then fired his handgun striking the teen in the abdomen. He died several hours later. Neighbors, some who don't want to be identified, say Shaw acted in self defense.

"This man risked his life protecting his home."

"If it had of been me I would have done the same thing,” says Kates. “I would have shot and protect what is mine."

Kates says there have been dozens of burglaries happening in the area in recent weeks. Detectives think they may be connected.

A week ago, pawn shop owner Chuck Smith opened fire and killed a 15-year-old boy when officers say the teen tried to break into the business.

"I am quite sure they've had enough. Enough of kids who don't have anything else to do but break into the community and take what people work hard for,” explains Kates.

There is a neighborhood watch program in place, according to Kates, where members monitor the streets only on weekends. Police though will step up patrols throughout the week to help ease the minds of residents.

Kates says, "It could have happened to me. It could have happened to me."

And keep homes and businesses safe, so another life isn't lost.

In this latest fatal burglary, police say the 14-year-old had two teen accomplices. One is 16 and the other 17. They're being questioned by detectives.

This is the 14th homicide of the year in Pine Bluff. Prosecutors will review the case to see if the homeowner firing the shot was justified."

Funny how when a cop shoots someone it isn't referred to as a homicide. Yes, some departments do treat it as such until a shooting has been declared a righteous one, but their partners in crime...the Yellowstream Media...NEVER refer to an officer taking the life of a perpetrator as a HOMICIDE.

We, it would appear, you and I, are the only ones capable of committing so egregious an offense.
