The proposed rule could affect all knives that can be opened with one hand, because it also includes changes in the interpretation of “gravity and inertia” opening knives in a way that could outlaw all knives that can be opened with a single hand. This means the new regulation could ban the importation of most of the pocketknives that are now in popular use."
Banning pocket-sized lockback folders simply means that A) The price of knives goes way up since imports cannot keep the Simon Legree American manufacturers at least somewhat honest, and B) The US based companies that export a LOT of their work overseas will cease operations, and when that happens refer back to A.
As I've said before; neither China nor Japan nor India nor frickin African knife makers care if I want to purchase a full auto opener. There's no "LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY" imprimatur that is designed to create an exclusivity among LEO's who gloatingly latch on to these blades if for nothing else than just because THEY can and WE cannot. I've simply no love lost for the U.S. based makers who make special products only for special people.
And why, pray tell, does the rat, strike that, BORDER patrol want to do away with our knives?
Because we scare them. And the only ones who should have lethal weapons are, after all, THEM.
