A loverly day in the neighborhood...

Father shot in head after break-in

Neither of the above incidents will get much press after the initial shock value has eroded; I mean, hey, it isn't as if a cop did a dumb thing and got himself killed in the process, so what's a few killings here and there when it's a city the size of NY. I grew up in NY. Saw people get taken down a lot. Never was much of a fuss made unless the person was connected...political juice type, not mob related...or a cop. Frig with someone from the upper east side and you're frigging with old money and the wheels of justice will grind you to paste. Shoot a cop and liberal as well as conservative newsrags will declare the end of civilization as we know it. Funny thing is, everybody who lives in NY knows precisely who does the crime and who should do the time. Another funny thing is the fact that those doing the crime know they've got the politicians and the media and the weepy loon groups to protect them so what's the fuss. Worst comes to worst you can write a book about how bad people turn good once they've met Jesus and even the conservatives will rally to your defense. It's called working the system. Street smart thugs and businessmen alike know how the game is played, and the fact that the pot of gold is worth the hassle of getting to it.

Laws are made so that we know how much punishment to dole to the ones who don't pay attention to laws. Make the punishment chump-change and guess what. Bingo. See, there's hope for you yet...
