Iranian Official Suggests Prisoner Swap photo
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - Iran's foreign minister said Monday a cease-fire and a prisoner swap would be "acceptable and fair" in the Israeli-Lebanese conflict. Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was speaking after talks with Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Sharaa.
Oh good grief, but here's the scoop. Israel is still in the softening-up phase of it's attack on Lebanon. This shows the Lebs and Syrians and Iranians some of what can and will happen should the Hezzies continue their fireworks display. Another week, no longer mind you, of Hez rocket attacks and no meaningful dialogue, and the tanks start rolling over the border. None of Israels enemies want to see this happen because there isn't any way to stop the tanks without Syria and Iran lending massive assistance, and neither Syria nor Iran want to commit their antequated armor into the fray. Tanks are expensive, and old tanks are good for only one thing and that's rumbling around and looking menacing, not going toe-to-toe against modern versions. The loss of face would be devastating for either regime, as letting the Jews kick their sorry excuses for armor back to Tehran if necessary isn't what Israels enemies want to have happen. In addition, if you send tanks then you must send air support and there go your fancy jets down the drain as well.
No, they'll do what modern moslems always do. Negotiate the release of the Israeli prisoners, then declare victory before losing everything.
What they truly NEED to see is Israeli tank battalions gearing up. Soon. They won't have to move an inch, but they will have to make it seem as if they are preparing for a massive attack. Shock & Awe is a feint to see if the opponent blinks. If he doesn't, then nothing was lost in the attempt, but the real punch better be forthcoming or the fight is over.
