Nursing Home Owners Acquitted in Patients' Deaths

ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. — "The owners of a suburban New Orleans nursing home where 35 patients died after Hurricane Katrina were acquitted Friday of negligent homicide and cruelty charges for not evacuating the facility as the storm approached.

The jury took about four hours to acquit Sal and Mabel Mangano, the husband-and-wife owners of St. Rita's Nursing Home in St. Bernard Parish.

The only other criminal charges connected to Katrina deaths are against six former or current New Orleans police officers who face murder or attempted murder charges from a shooting after the storm. But the case is not tied to flooding or a direct impact of Katrina."

And there you have it. Instead of taking the Mayor and Governor to court for criminal negligence (at the very LEAST), they tried the nursing home folks. And of course the above mentioned officers. Meanwhile, NONE of the guns stolen by MANY police, have been returned to their rightful owners.
