VIDEO RENTALS: I AM LEGEND

Subtitle this one: I AM WHINGY

Will Smith is part and parcel to a gods awful remake of Richard Matheson's runaway bestselling book of the same name, but at least there's a cool dog in this one.

In the Charleton Heston Omega Man, our protagonist was the sole survivor of a plague that turned all of mankind into night-dwelling vampires who would awaken each evening to find their numbers depleted because of this sun-sider that went from pillar to post killing every vamp he could find. HE was the monster, you see. The legend. The thing that came out when everyone was asleep and hid under the bed.

Mr. Smith is working on a cure for the virus. A virologist. Will Smith. Mr. Schuck and Jive himself operating with one helluvan edumacation. For three years he builds himself an impressive hideout, then for the three days that the movie chronicles he goes batshit. Gone are the vampires, and say hello to some crappy cartoon zombies that grunt and scream and gesticulate worse than Algore bitching about climate change.

HE becomes a legend for working on finding the cure, and that's just low rent. The original premise was so very awesome and different and this one is Night of the Living Dead with zombies that can play a trick on you now and again.

Zombies attack, Will shoots them then runs away. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

One and a half double-taps because the dog was awesome and some of the ordnance was decent as well. Otherwise, forget it.
