Body-Armor Gaps Are Shown to Endanger Troops
"Pentagon Studies Call Deaths Preventable"

Interesting story from the Washington Post, but take it with a grain of salt. ALL military deaths are preventable one way or another, and protecting the men on the ground requires a constant look at the technology that helps resist the impact from bullets or shrapnel. One just doesn't say, okay, here's a more resistant jacket, try it on. Takes months and even years to find the right balance of protection, comfort, and realiability, and quite often before the tests are even completed someone comes along with another system that might be better so it's off to the races once again.

This has been beaten to death since knights wore shining armor. How heavy, how flexible, how much does it impeded movement, and for what sized person is it intended for. Can you imagine the hue and cry if all the Pentagon had to do was make something for a 200 pound man and smaller statured individuals began dying because they did not have access to the better stuff?

There's no magic bullet and there's no magic body armor. This "endangering the troops" nonsense is typical of the Post attempting to cloud the facts with emotions, and know what? It works. Or they wouldn't be doing it.

Just don't let them fool YOU.
