NRA News: More Good Stuff From Florida

Thursday, May 4, 2006, a bill supported by the National Rifle Association and Unified Sportsmen of Florida, to exempt personal information of concealed weapons and firearms license holders from public records, passed the Florida Legislature and is on its way to Governor Jeb Bush (R) for his signature.

HB-687 Sponsored by Representative Sandy Adams (R-Orlando) in the House and Senator Mike Haridopolis (R-Melbourne) in the Senate does the following:

1. Exempts the personal identifying information of persons who apply for and receive concealed weapons and firearms licenses from public records
.
2. Makes the data available to law enforcement for legitimate law enforcement purposes.

3. Stops media harassment of license holders. In the past the media have posted names, addresses, birth dates, and other personal identifying information on websites and have printed them in newspapers. Such reckless conduct subjects license holders to possible identity theft, theft of firearms by criminals and tells domestic violence abusers and stalkers where to find victims who have moved to hide themselves and their children from these predators.

The bill passed the House 83-27 and passed the Senate 37-2.Special thanks go to Senate President Tom Lee (R-Brandon) and House Speaker Allan Bense (R-Panama City) for helping move this legislation.SENATE (CO-SPONSORS) Senators Victor Crist (R); Evelyn Lynn (R); Burt Saunders (R)HOUSE (CO-SPONSORS) Donna Clark (R)

Now lets see the usual suspects:

THOSE WHO VOTED AGAINST THE BILL IN THE SENATE: Gwen Margolis (D); Nan Rich (D)

THOSE WHO VOTED AGAINST THE BILL IN THE HOUSE: Representatives Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D), Mary Brandenberg (D); Phillip Brutus (D), Susan Bucher (D), Edward Bullard (D), Joyce Cusack (D); Anne Gannon (D), Dan Gelber (D), Audrey Gibson (D), Ken Gottlieb (D), Ron Greenstein (D); Bob Heinriquez (D); Wilbert Holloway (D), Ed Jennings (D); Arthenia Joyner (D), Frank Peterman (D), Curtis Richardson (D); Yolly Roberson (D), Tim Ryan (D), Franklin Sands (D), Jack Seiler (D), Irving Slosberg (D), Chris Smith (D), Eleanor Sobel (D), Priscilla Taylor (D), Shelly Vana (D)

Yep. As usual, the gun-hating Democripples voted against protecting lawful gun owners from unwanted intrusions and harassment. Florida has always been funky because retirement communities can be hornswaggled into believing that Republicans want to cut benefits, but it's a hard sell even to the oldies when ot comes to privacy. These same Dumcritters who preach that PRIVACY is clearly outlined in the Constitution, will suddenly have a change of heart when it comes to the 2nd Amendment, because an armed people are beholding to no one, and that kind of constuency wants nothing to do with Loons and their commie ways.
