Ranger T, Or Is It...

Dear Winchester,

In attempting to decipher the various Ranger-T munitions, great rounds or I wouldn't even try, I find myself in a quandary.

The web site: Ammunition To Go, features Ranger RA40180HP subsonic ammunition, and the link provided takes one to the Winchester page for Ranger ammo, but the only 180 grain varietal listed therein is RA40T.

Would you be so kind to tell me the difference between RA40180HP and RA40T. The boxes appear identical save for the product numbers.

Best regards,

Fits

Dear Fits

The difference is in the design of the bullet. The RA30180HP has a conventional hollowpoint design. The RA40T has the SXT (Formerly Black Talon) design and is much more effective.

So don't be fooled by the box. The hucksters at Ammunition To Go are calling the new Ranger-T "Talon", and they are decidedly NOT. There was a damned good reason Winchester changed the name from Black Talon to Ranger, and picture yourself in an otherwise defensible shooting when some Anti DA uses the following description then tells a jury that Talons were "outlawed" years ago. The new Rangers are measurably better bullets than the old Talons, and don't fall for the marketing ploy that offers conventional Hollowpoints, (the ones Ammo To Go is calling Subsonic in a Ranger-looking box) either. Always look for the T, but for heavens sake don't say Talon unless you like seeing yourself on the 6 O'Clock news making life tough for the rest of us.

Yes, the crooks at Ammunition To Go provide a link for the NON-T that takes you to the T page, to confuse you into buying the wrong product.

And now that I've confused the shit out of everyone, have a good day.

UPDATE BECAUSE I FORGOT SOMETHING

I recently received the new CDNN catalog and they featured certain Ranger ammunition, with the option of purchasing it via the attached phone number, or ordering online. Going online, there wasn't a dollop of ammo to be found, so I mailed them a query as to what gives.

Well duh. We don't sell ammo online. Then why did you say to go online to order ammo? Because people might find other products they might wish to purchase.

Oh.
