No matter what, Hollywood liberals can't keep their mouths shut, and when they open theirs to speak, their comments and observations only end up harming the politicians they are trying to help.
Case in point: Mega-mogul David Geffen, who yesterday took over Maureen Dowd's column to issue an Arctic blast at front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton on behalf of his preferred candidate, Barack Obama.
Trust me when I tell you this is not what Obama needed.
Obama wants to "change the tone" of our politics, in case you haven't heard. Obama is the candidate of "audacious hope," whatever that means.
Geffen seems to like Obama's positive spin, since the King of Hollywood spoke so pointedly to Dowd about how easily the Clintons "lie" and how he's tired of the "Clinton royal family."
Meow! The thing is, Geffen's catty slaps at the Clintons morphed yesterday into a spitting match between Team Hillary and Team Barack - to Obama's detriment.
Feigning outrage the way only a brilliant campaign mouthpiece can, the peerless Howard Wolfson baited the hook for the Clinton campaign.
"If Senator Obama is indeed sincere about his repeated claims to change the tone of our politics, he should immediately denounce these remarks, remove Mr. Geffen from his campaign and return his money," Wolfson said.
The purpose of Wolfson's blast was to get Obama's goat and provoke a response.
And, like the novices they apparently are, the Obama-ites swallowed Wolfson's bait, hook, line and sinker..."
This simply has to be a record for the earliest slap-fest between democrat candidates. From the looks of things, a Republican challenger need but wait for the next salvo to draw fodder for attacking the eventual winner, and by doing so appear to be above the fray.
Lord but I detest these people.
