Artist melts, sculpts confiscated weapons

" Illinois state police are trying to open some eyes by giving an inside look at what happens to weapons that are seized.

For the last 20 years, 83-year-old Chicago sculptor John Kearney has destroyed confiscated guns and molded them into a sculpture. And that work becomes the prestigious Abraham Lincoln Award at Kearney's workshop in Lincoln Park.

The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence gives the awards to individuals who have shown great courage to reduce gun violence. Kearney says he is very passionate against gun use.

"We really have no use for handguns, except for the police. And it shouldn't be going out like we do. There are many countries that don't allow guns. And these wonderful people are making headways, but it's not there yet," he said. Among the recipients of the award, are Senator Dick Durbin and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley."

How in the name of all thats holy is showing people melted, molded guns an eye-opener?

Perhaps certain folks remain unawares that metal, well, melts? And can be shaped, and bent and transformed from serious tools to art by serious fools? And not for nothing, but what makes, in his mine if you can call it that, the police so superior?

Yet another case of badge-licking. By someone who used to weld automobile bumpers into unrecognizable shapes then call 'em anything he wanted to before coming to the conclusion that using evil guns instead of old car parts would make him famous. To be fair, Miss Kearny has done some pretty cool animal sculptures but pretty cool is all he ever was until he jumped aboard the anti-gun bandwagon and became a "world-renowned master".

Go figure.

Thanks to The War on Guns.
