Sunday Potpourri

"At a town meeting, a man demands to know what the candidate would do about "all these bastards" born to welfare mothers. The candidate, Klein recalls, "glared at the man - he seemed truly angry - and said, 'First, sir, we must remember that it is our duty to love all the children.' "
So spoke, during the hotly contested South Carolina primary in 2000, an indignant George W. Bush. Politics still has exhilarating moments."

LOS ANGELES (May 13) - Southern California freshman point guard Ryan Francis was shot and killed early Saturday while riding in a car in Louisiana, where he was visiting his mother.

The 19-year-old Francis was killed about 3:30 a.m. in Baton Rouge, said Tim Tessalone, USC's director of sports information.
Francis was among four passengers whose vehicle pulled up to a stoplight. The driver of another vehicle got out and opened fire, said Lt. Keith Bates of the Baton Rouge Police Department. The driver of the car Francis was in attempted to drive away but Francis, who was sitting in the back seat, was shot multiple times.
Bates said no one else in the vehicle was injured.

Uh huh. 3:30 in the morning visiting your mother when an unknown assailant randomly fires shots into a car and hits only you. Uh huh. The story is from the ASSociated PressGANG, needs no link because they do not deserve one for such shoddy reporting, and the gist is presented without further ado. Preceeding it is George Will's Sunday examination of all things minutiae, but it ends with a bang. Then there's this:

"Two of New York City's most no toriously leftist colleges seem to be plagued by severe cases of Sixties Envy.
Obviously intent on emulating the political intolerance that typified the nihilistic academic activism of the late 1960s, students and faculty at Columbia University and the New School are demanding that Sen. John McCain be disinvited from campus speaking gigs.

The anti-McCain uproar has been particularly strident on the latter campus - marked chiefly by complaints that the senator's voting record is "starkly at odds" with the New School's "progressive social values."

Wow. These whackjobs really don't know the Manchurian Candidate very well, do they? If ever there were a "Republican" politician to meet & greet, that'd be crazy John. Idjits. If they're not careful someone with some cajones might sneak into the national spotlight and knock Hillary out of the box, so if I were them I'd be praising crazy John to the high heavens. But what can we REALLY expect from institutes of higher Looning?
