WASHINGTON — "The American bald eagle, once nearly extinct, is making a comeback, so much so that the revered bird was taken off the federal government's list of protected species Thursday.
Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne made the announcement at a ceremony near the Jefferson Memorial, a day before the expiration of a court-directed deadline for his department to decide the eagle's status."
This is terrific news. They still cannot be hunted, but there will be far fewer calls of FOUL when a few of them go missing here and there. Not that I'd ever participate in a Bald Eagle Roast...no siree. No matter how tasty they are, it's still against the law. Cross between turkey and chicken. They tell me.
